Barbara Scharf, M.A.

In 1976 Barbara Scharf moved to Sonoma County from Los Angeles. While raising her two sons she worked in real estate for Frank Howard Allen, and in social services for Petaluma People Service Center, YWCA, and Social Advocates for Youth. Always finding fulfilment in volunteer work, Barbara has held many positions throughout Sonoma County in the secular and non-secular communities. She is most proud of her years as parent faculty organization president at her children's school.

Barbara's mother (and best friend) moved to Sonoma County from LA after becoming a widow. She faced many health challenges during her time in Sonoma County, and Barbara was always by her side helping make decisions regarding her care. Through this experience Barbara gained valuable knowledge about working with older adults. In 2000 Barbara became program director of the Friendship Circle of the Jewish Community Center, Sonoma County. It was a perfect match for the next 12 years. In 2010 Barbara was awarded the prestigious honor of Agency Staff Person of the Year for the Jewish Community Federation of Sonoma County, Marin County, San Francisco, and the Peninsula.

With her love of working on behalf of the older adult population, Barbara is dedicated to being a valuable resource and referral to the many people who can benefit from the services offered by Senior Placement Services as marketing coordinator.
